401(k) Fee Disclosure Regulations are Coming!

After several years of deliberating over 401(k) fees, the Department of Labor (DOL) is nearly ready to release new fee disclosure regulations requiring providers of 401(k) plans to reveal details of their fees, which is something that is not currently required. According to a USA Today article, the DOL plans on releasing their new regulations shortly.

Defined Contribution Plans Offered More Now than Pension Plans

A recent report seems to confirm what many have long suspected—that 401(k) plans are replacing pensions as the primary retirement investment vehicle offered in the workplace. The results of the annual Washington-Baltimore Metro Region Benefits Survey Report found that 98 percent of employers reported offering defined contribution plans, such as 401(k)s, compared with last year’s figure of 72 percent.

IRS Sending out Compliance Questionnaires

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) recently began sending out a Compliance Questionnaire to a random set of plan sponsors. About 1,200 plan sponsors will be asked to complete this questionnaire online, so that the IRS can see what topics that plan sponsors require additional education, guidance and outreach on.
